You need other sites to link to your site if you are going to work your way to the top of the search results. Here's another way to do it.

Many article sites let you submit your own unique content. In other words, you write and article and let them post it on their site. Why do people take the time to write content for other sites? Because, when you post the article, they will let you include or add links to your websites! Links to your site, from other domains, are a big boost to your SEO.

Article submission tips:

Don't submit the same article to multiple sites. Google sometimes gets cranky when it sees duplicate content. Here's what I mean: When it sees the exact same text copied onto multiple different sites, it will write it off as 'duplicate content'. This means it will usually rank only one lot, or sometimes none, of the content. There's more about this in Tip 33.

Rather than submitting all your articles to the same site, I recommend submitting lots of articles to several different sites. Links to your site from different domains are more important than many links from the same domain.

Each article submission site has different rules about what is and is not allowed. Some will allow links within the article, some only allow them in a biography section. Some have a minimum word requirement. Some will allow other Webmasters to reprint your article. Read the rules before you post.

Example:

Imagine I sell model rockets on my Website, www.modelrocketrykid.com. I have done what I can to optimize the page for SEO - everything from using title tags to adding content to using headers. But what I haven't done is persuaded a lot of people to link to my site. I've even emailed dozens of other model rocketry Webmasters, but they just won't add my link.

What do I do? I sign up for accounts on article submission Websites and I write some articles about model rocketry. I write an article about building model rockets and another about blasting them off. And then I post them to the sites, with my link in the article of course.

Now I will get natural traffic from people who read the article and want to visit my site. Google will scan the article and see the link to my site as well. As a result, I'll get a bump up in the rankings because there's a link to my site from the article submission site.
