Tip 16:  Video Killed the SEO Star
..............................................................................................................

Surround videos with inspiring, keyword-rich text.

Video is common on web pages and it's often a huge attraction for visitors.  But Google can't scan the content of video.  Video doesn't usually have keyword and phrases for the spiders to index and categorize.  Some videos have label tags but these isolated words are not enough, and the tags rely on the Webmaster choosing his own keywords.

If you have a page on your site with video, give it the same attention to SEO that you would any other page.  Be sure it has a title tag, an h1 header, and be sure the page has lots and lots of text.

Even if the video is what you want customers to focus on, stick some text all around it for Google's sake.  Include the title of the video.  Discuss the video.  Rate the video.  Describe the video.  Transcribe the spoken words from the video into text.  Do whatever you have to do to get keywords and phrases on the page.

Google has trouble ranking your page near the top of the search unless is has some text to go with it.

Example:

Imagine I had a Photoshop tutorial site.  I have plenty of articles about Photoshop and lots of content throughout the site.  I also have a video to show users how to clone objects out of a photo.  When I post the video on its own page, I want to be sure Google knows what it is and I want them to rank it well.

So, to be sure there is content, I'll add the title of the video near the top.  Below the video I include a detailed description of the Photoshop trick being discussed.
